Cross Cutting Theme Lead: Engagement with Welsh Government funded research infrastructure

Associate Professor

I have an interdisciplinary background in Demography and Sociology applied to Social Policy issues.

Having worked previously in France, New Zealand and Mauritius, my international academic experience has spanned interdisciplinary, comparative research on population ageing and its implications for population policy and development, family and intergenerational relationships and more recently, older people’s housing. My work has involved collaboration on European and international research projects such as the United Nations Fertility and Family Surveys, the French-British ESRC-EC project on International Comparisons of Family Policies in Europe, and in New Zealand, The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology funded projects on fertility and family formation, where I developed and led a research stream on population change, intergenerational relations and solidarity. At Swansea, I have been engaged in Welsh Government funded research on housing adaptations, older people and technology, and extra-care housing, and work in partnership with third sector organisations involved in the delivery of housing and care services to older people. My lecturing interests are comparative social policy, family policy and ageing studies.

I am joint coordinator for the European Network on Housing Research working group Housing & Living Conditions of Ageing Populations, and member of the Welsh Government’s Expert Group on Housing an Ageing Population. I write and review for leading scientific journals in the fields of Social Gerontology and Sociology.
