Dr Joanne Hudson

Joanne was appointed as an Associate Professor in Sport and Exercise Psychology in the College of Engineering at Swansea University in 2016. She holds an Honours degree in Physical Education and Educational Studies and a PhD in Developmental Sport Psychology, both from the University of Wales, Bangor and has taught in Higher Education for 20 years.
Joanne is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a BASES Fellow and BPS Associate Fellow, a BPS Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with Health Care Professions Council Registration and holds BASES Accreditation for Research.
Joanne’s research interests in exercise psychology focus on self-perceptions and behaviour change, particularly in older adults. In sport psychology, her research focuses on stress, appraisal and coping in athletes, often using Reversal Theory as an underpinning framework. She has published over 40 peer reviewed articles, co-authored or edited 5 texts, and, supervised 12 PhD students to successful completion.
Joanne has been involved in the British Psychological Society for over 15 years in a range of different roles including Chair of the Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology, Chair of the Standing Committee for CPD and currently as Chair of the Qualification in Sport & Exercise Psychology.
