Dr Sarah Miles
Sarah is currently working with Charles Musselwhite on a variety of projects for the Centre for Innovative Ageing (CIA), as well as undertaking other research roles with CADR. After graduating with a degree in Psychology with European Study from the University of Exeter in 1999, Sarah embarked upon a PhD in cognitive neuropsychology at Cardiff University. After completing this in 2003, she became assistant manager at Headway Cardiff, helping with the social rehabilitation of people with an acquired brain injury.
A change of direction took Sarah to the University of Glamorgan where she obtained a first degree in midwifery, which sparked her love of researching. In 2012 she began working for the CIA in the role of a research assistant on the CFAS project.
In 2015, Sarah founded a community interest company with a colleague, Kate Whitestone, which provides singing and social groups for people over that age of 50. With Music in Mind runs groups in Cowbridge and Barry at present, and was created following research at Swansea University into the benefits of singing, social interaction and into the lack of service provision in certain locations. As an inclusive social enterprise, the community members who attend range from those who seek company and enjoy singing with others to those living with Parkinson's Disease, dementia, epilepsy, sight problems and health or mental health problems.
