Centre for Innovative Ageing
The centre provides an environment for research and training in the study of ageing. It also initiates, coordinates and supports research from within Swansea University and further, to develop the research capacity in the field of ageing across Wales.
The Centre runs a MSc in Ageing Studies. The MSc in Ageing Studies attracts the finest students from around the globe, and prepares them for:
- working with older people
- designing policies for older people
- managing and delivering services for older people
- designing or manufacturing products for an ageing population
- joining the research community
The Centre generates new interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of ageing by;
- Identifying the gaps in ageing research;
- Providing advice and guidance to policy makers and practitioners in all sectors; and
- Acting as a centre for postgraduate training and develop as an international centre for ageing research and study.
The centre works with other centres in the UK (Sheffield, Kings College, Keele, Southampton and Oxford) and in Europe, Canada, the USA, and Australasia.
Objectives of the centre
- Engaging in world-class multi-disciplinary research
- Promoting and facilitating international collaboration between researchers, policy makers and practitioners
- Communicating the findings of research in order to improve public awareness, practice and policy
- Transferring and translating knowledge from research findings into potential applications through policies, interventions, services and products
- Providing educational and training facilities and programmes at Masters and Doctoral levels as well as professional courses.
